“Such a Big World, I Have a Beautiful Home” is an international non-profit series of events held since 2017. It is jointly organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s representative office in China, the China Evening News Photography Society, and the Committee of International Exhibition of Children’s Paintings. Each year, the exhibition has a different theme and solicits contributions from young children from different countries through various languages. The latest exhibition “Beauty in All Living Things” in 2023 received 5,266 submissions from 13 countries, 53 cities, and regions. A panel of experts from various fields selected 535 outstanding works, exhibited around the world and online in a 720-degree virtual reality exhibition. The theme of the ninth exhibition is “Entering the Primitive Ecology” and will begin in January 2024.
The exhibition has been held in several countries including China, the Netherlands, Italy, the United States, Russia, and South Korea, with dozens of touring exhibitions. Every year, a theme song for the exhibition is created, combining children’s paintings with intangible cultural heritage and other art forms, and carrying out public welfare activities such as “Hand in Hand Painting to Warm Children’s Hearts” to help poverty alleviation and disability assistance. So far, more than one million children and families have participated in the exhibition series of public welfare activities. The exhibition has received strong support from local governments and people wherever it goes, as well as extensive attention and coverage from the media.
The Exhibition strives to create opportunities for children, to participate in globally relevant issues, and allow children to express their pure thoughts and feelings to the world through painting. In a colorful world, they understand multiculturalism, recognize the relationship between themselves and the world, and perceive responsibility. It also opens up a broader artistic vision for children, presents children’s creativity and influence to the world, helps children establish self-confidence and develop their physical and mental health during their growth.
